Welcome to the South Devon Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Explore the website to find out about one of Britain's finest landscapes and how we can work together to protect and enhance it. Distinctive features of the AONB include its rugged cliffs, sandy coves, peaceful countryside, pretty villages, patchwork fields, ancient orchards and woodlands, Devon hedges, narrow winding lanes and secretive estuaries.

It is also home to 34,000 people and is a thriving, dynamic work place, a centre for active and creative community life and a popular destination for visitors seeking rest, recreation and inspiration.

AONB Management Plan review workshops

Good progress is being made to review the area's current AONB Management Plan which will lead to a revised plan for 2009-14. 

Following on from recent 'one to one' key stakeholder discussions we are holding a series of workshops at Follaton House, Totnes, specifically for organisations to help develop a response to challenging subjects.  We would very much value your input to ensure that the consultation process can be as comprehensive as possible.  For details of the programme click here.

2nd South Devon Walking Festival

26th September - 5th October 2008

How many walks: approx 30
What's on offer: A choice of walks several of them themed e.g. wildlife, archaeology, history.  Suitable for all abilities, length ranging from 1 mile - 11 miles.  Activity walks and story/farm trails for children.

After the huge success of its first walking festival South Devon AONB is organising a further festival in 2008.  Whether you enjoy coastal, estuary or country walking the programme will have something to offer.  There will be walks on offer for  all ages and abilities with some especially designed for families.
